Trump's Policies Present a Danger to Our Social Fabric.

His domestic and foreign initiatives – from the effort to overturn the election previously to current moves and statements – undermine both national and global law. However, the issue goes deeper.

These actions threaten the core idea of a civilized world.

A moral purpose of a functioning society is to stop the dominant from attacking and exploiting the weaker. Without this, we could find ourselves trapped in a state of nature where might makes right wins.

This concept is embedded of the nation's founding texts. It’s also the core of the modern framework of international relations advocated by the America, built on multilateralism, democratic governance, human rights, and the supremacy of law.

However, it is a delicate construct, often broken by those who choose to misuse their authority. Maintaining it demands that the influential have the moral fortitude to avoid seeking short-term wins, and that the rest of us hold them accountable when they fail.

Unchecked strength does not equal right. It results in uncertainty, chaos, and hostilities.

Each instance individuals, companies, or nations that are advantaged prey upon those that are not, the structure of civilization unravels. If these actions are allowed to continue, the system fails. Allowing it to persist, the world can descend into chaos and war. It has happened before.

We now inhabit a global community grown vastly more unequal. Authority and resources are increasingly centralized than ever before. This invites the elite to exploit the disadvantaged because they act with a sense of omnipotent.

The wealth of a small group of billionaires is staggering. The influence of big tech, big oil, and large defense contractors covers much of the globe. Artificial intelligence is poised to consolidate economic and political clout to a greater degree. The offensive capability of the major powers is without parallel in the annals of time.

Enabled by complicit legislators and a sympathetic judicial body, the highest office has been transformed into the most powerful and unaccountable entity of government in the modern era.

Put it all together and you grasp the threat.

An unbroken thread ties earlier lawless actions to ongoing provocations. Both were founded upon the hubris of omnipotence.

There is parallel dynamics in international affairs: in wars of aggression, in coercive diplomacy, and in the rampant monopolization by powerful corporate entities.

However, strength without restraint does not establish right. It fosters instability, upended order, and bloodshed.

History shows that laws and norms to check the powerful also protect them. Without such constraints, their relentless pursuit for more power and wealth ultimately lead to their downfall – along with their enterprises, countries, or domains. And threaten world war.

Such contempt for legal order will plague America and the global community – and indeed civilized conduct – for years to come.
