Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and were in communication with the NFL.
The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
Rice missed the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, he concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
